Freshman hit game-winning free throws in DU's first win at Temple since 1995

PITTSBURGH - Duquesne freshman guard Derrick Colter (Forestville, Md./Largo) has been named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for the third time this season it was announced today. He is the eighth player in school history to earn A-10 Rookie of the Week honors three or more times.
The 5-11, 175-pounder averaged 18.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 3.0 steals in two games. He scored 17 points, including game-winning free throws with 2.9 seconds left, to help Duquesne end an 11-game losing streak in an 84-83 win at Temple. The Maryland native added six assists and four steals as the Dukes posted their first win over the Owls in Philly since 1995. He followed that with a game-high 20 points and seven assists in the loss to Rhode Island. Colter went 15-of-18 (.833) from the foul line in the two games.
Colter, the only Duquesne player to start all 25 games, was also named A-10 Rookie of the Week on Dec. 17 & 24).
Colter, who leads the Dukes in scoring (13.2 ppg.) and assists (128, 5.8), is bidding to become the first underclassman to lead the DU in both categories. Only four players in school history have led the Dukes in scoring and assists - all were seniors: Aaron Jackson (19.3/5.7 in 2009), Bryant McAllister (19.7/4.8 in 2006), Courtney Wallace (16.6/3.4 in 2001) and Mike James (17.5/3.5 in 1998).
Duquesne (8-17, 1-10) returns to action tomorrow night at Butler in a game that will be televised locally by ROOT Sports Pittsburgh at 7:00 p.m.

PITTSBURGH - Duquesne University head football coach Jerry Schmitt announced the addition of 17 student-athletes to the Dukes football program today.
The incoming class spans the country, covering eight states ranging from Maryland to Florida to Nevada and California.
This is the sixth season Duquesne has offered scholarships in the sport of football in the modern era.
"This years' recruiting class brings a combination of athletic ability, football acumen, post-grad experience and academic achievement to our program," said head coach Jerry Schmitt. "Although not a large class by number, the staff pinpointed specific needs and worked to find quality student-athletes.
"We welcome a group that shares the philosophies of our University and will be a good fit with our current players. The staff is looking forward to working with them as we prepare for the 2013 season."
The 2013 season will be Duquesne's sixth as an associate football-playing member of the Northeast Conference.
The Dukes, who return 13 starters - six on offense and seven on defense - from last year's team, open four weeks of spring practice on March 18. The annual spring game will take place on Saturday, April 20 on Rooney Field.
The time of the spring game is to be announced.
