All the attention has been on the Penguins' scoring drought. But what of their improved defensive play? 3rd fewest goals allowed in the Eastern Conference! Is that a tribute to assistant coach Jacques Martin?
But for a ping pong ball, the Penguins could have drafted Alex Ovechkin in the 2004 draft. But Washington had the ball bounce their way and took him with the 1st pick, and the Penguins then took Evgeni Malkin with the 2nd. Knowing what we know now, if the ball had bounced in the Pens direction, would you have taken Geno with that 1st pick, or selected Ovechkin?
Today, Mike White of the Post-Gazette will break down the WPIAL championship games at 12:30, Phil Bourque will talk Pens at 1, Gerry Dulac will talk Steelers football and a bit of Tiger Woods penchant for conveniently ignoring the rules of golf at 1:30. Plus I've got a couple of things weighing heavily on my mind which I will discuss on today's show as well!
I know it's my job, but I'll be darned if I can explain the turnaround of the Steelers defense at halftime. Maybe you have an idea as to why Megatron became The Ghost of Receptions Past in the second half. You have to give the Steelers credit for fighting back. I too thought they were dead in the water at halftime. Now, believe it or not, even at 4-6 they are very much alive for a wild card spot. Today we'll talk with Coach Tom Bradley and Mike Prisuta about the game. Plus, you know, I know, even the Penguins know what's wrong with them. Can they fix it? They get a shot at it tonight against Barbeque Bruce and the Ducks.
Kudos to Cutch. Well deserved. He is the best Pirate in a generation. Can we make the argument that he's better than Barry Bonds to date? I'll make the attempt.
Looks like instant replay is full speed ahead in MLB. I like the tweaks they've made to it. We'll discuss today.
The Penguins need to tweak the way they play offense. Dan Bylsma says it on the show today. Rob Rossi will discuss it at 12:30. Are the Steelers still in the playoff race? We'll know Sunday afternoon. Matt Williamson breaks down the Lions game at 1:30. And at 1, it's Fantasy Football Friday with Duane the Brain. Get your questions in!
Maybe we should flip/flop the logos in the pic below! Very disappointing loss and performance by the Penguins. They're 4-6 in the last 10, scoring only 7 goals in the 6 losses! Can't use injuries as an excuse anymore. Is it as simple as Sid and Geno not scoring? I've got some thoughts, as I'm sure you do, as well. We'll talk to Phil Bourque about the situation at 1. I think Andrew McCutchen will be the MVP by this evening. At 1:30 we'll ask Trib Pirates writer Rob Biertempfel about what he's hearing from his writer colleagues, and also ask him about the Bucs' free agency plans. To me, re-signing Burnett is fine, but not as important as getting a big bat at either 1B or RF. And, you have to figure the Lions will score points Sunday, so can the Steelers offense keep up with them?
ALL is not well with the Steelers. But it is better. Was your opinion of this team altered at all with the win yesterday? Or is it, "Well, it was just Buffalo?" We'll hear from Ben on the story (non-story) of his alleged trade request. Your thoughts? We'll talk to Coach Tom Bradley at 12:30 and Mike Prisuta at 1:30.
No disgrace in losing to the Blues, but it does provide a Blue-Print of the kind of hockey they will face in the playoffs. How do they beat a team like that? We'll talk to The Voice of the Pens, Mike Lange, at 1. And Mr. Monday Night tries again at 1:45.
Also, I'm expecting a Pirates sweep..awards for Neal Huntington, Clint Hurdle and Andrew McCutchen. Agree?
